Under the global consensus on sustainable development, the energy consumption and environmental impact of packaging equipment have garnered increasing attention. The two-fold machine, with its simple structure and direct operation, offers distinct advantages in energy consumption per unit of product. Typically operating at 3–5 kilowatts, the two-fold machine achieves relatively low energy consumption per product due to its high-speed operation. However, it is worth noting that when handling complex packaging, the two-fold machine may require multiple processes, which could diminish its overall energy efficiency advantage from a full-process perspective.

The three-fold machine, through integrated design, consolidates multiple folding processes, reducing energy losses associated with intermediate handling and repeated positioning. Although its single-unit power consumption is slightly higher (4–7 kilowatts), the total energy consumption for producing similarly complex products is 15%–25% lower than that of the two-fold machine. Advanced three-fold machines incorporate energy recovery systems that convert braking energy into stored electricity, further optimizing energy performance. Additionally, the three-fold machine offers greater adaptability to materials, enabling more efficient processing of thinner materials and indirectly reducing raw material consumption.

As the most technologically complex equipment, the four-fold machine exhibits a dualistic performance in energy consumption. Traditional four-fold machines, with their multi-axis synchronous operation, can consume 8–12 kilowatts, resulting in higher energy usage. However, the new generation of intelligent four-fold machines has achieved significant breakthroughs in energy efficiency through optimized control algorithms. These include servo motor on-demand power supply technology, which automatically reduces power during non-folding phases; intelligent temperature control systems that minimize auxiliary heating energy consumption; and motion trajectory optimization to eliminate unnecessary movements. These innovations enable high-end four-fold machines to reduce energy consumption per unit of product by over 30% compared to traditional models.

In terms of environmental impact, different folding machines contribute variably to sustainable packaging. The two-fold machine primarily supports the recycling of conventional materials, while the three-fold machine begins to adapt to bio-based materials. The four-fold machine plays a key role in promoting packaging lightweighting and material innovation. As environmental regulations tighten and consumer environmental awareness increases, the green performance of folding machines will become a critical dimension in future market competition.
